Tenancy is the legal relationship between a landlord and tenant. Landlords are responsible for providing the premises and any utilities that may be needed. Tenants are responsible for paying rent, maintaining the property, and abiding by the terms of the lease agreement.
A tenancy can last from 1 month to 10 years. If the lease has not been renewed after its initial term, then the original terms of the lease remain in effect until either party gives notice to terminate the lease. In this case, the original lease would continue to apply unless otherwise specified in the new lease.
The tenancy law in India has been developed over time to protect the interest of both landlord and tenant. Landlords are given legal rights to evict tenants if they fail to pay rent or damage the property. On the other hand, tenants have certain rights that include the right to live in their own home, protection from harassment, and compensation for damages caused by landlords.
