Abandoned property

It refers to items intentionally and permanently left behind, often by a tenant, when it is clear the owner does not plan to return, retrieve, or use them. Examples include belongings left in a house after a tenant moves out, vehicles abandoned on the roadside, or an inventor’s patent rights when they do not apply for a patent and allow others to use the invention without objection. Property rights under a contract may also be considered abandoned if the contractual obligations are not fulfilled. However, an easement or other land rights are not deemed abandoned merely due to non-use.
